Spreading some festive cheer to those in need
Having raised over R21-million for charities across the country this past financial year, the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme offered a helping hand this past festive season through their national Spirit of Giving campaign. A collaboration between MySchool, Woolworths, kalahari.net and EvaluNet, plus the MySchool cardholders, the initiative’s aim was to mobilise the public to donate 10 000 meals, reading books and education software to four worthy recipients across the country.
These recipients were Heartbeat and Noah in Johannesburg and KwaZulu Natal; The Shine Centre for literacy in the Western Cape and Motheong Primary School in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.
Pieter Twine, MySchool General Manager says, “During the festive season people want to help those less fortunate than themselves but are often unsure of how to do so. To make the process easier, during November and December we set-up convenient channels to help feed a hungry orphan, donate a book to boost literacy among under-privileged children or give an under-resourced school educational software.”
Adding to the goodwill, for every book that was purchased from kalahari.net, MySchool is matching the donations by up to R20 000. MySchool also donated R100 for every purchase made at GetAhead’s online store towards the school in Pretoria.
Shine Centre Book Donations
To donate a book to The Shine Centre, the South African public had to visit kalahari.net and select from the list of books that The Shine Centre requires. Although, the target of collecting 1 000 books was not reached, The Shine Centre is more than grateful with the 284 books that were donated valued at R20 000. As promised, the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme has matched this donation with R20 000 cash which the centre will use towards purchasing Xhosa books for their many learners.
Educational Software for Motheong Primary School
In order to ensure Motheong Primary School gets a much-needed educational software for their computer room, customers simply had to purchase a GetAhead product for their own child from Evalunet. For every item sold MySchool made a R100 donation towards Motheong Primary School’s own educational software. During the course of this campaign 147 GetAhead products were sold and in return the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme donated R15 000 worth of Biblion software to Motheong Primary School.
Festive Meal for 10 000 Children
In order to contribute towards giving 10 000 orphaned and vulnerable kids a festive meal this holiday season, the public had to SMS the word ‘KIDS’ to 40267 and R20 was donated to festive meals for Heartbeat and Noah orphans. The goal of feeding 10 000 was reached and these children were treated to a festive meal.
MySchool’s partnerships with leading retailers has helped boost the success of this campaign. However, without the dedicated support of MySchool cardholders across the country this campaign would not have been a reality. Thank you to everyone involved and for supporting the campaign!
